Power Dynamics (Bullies)

These are my thoughts on bullying that I want to address for Saturn Messenger. Sometimes a joke is a joke. It might be about power, control, and causing harm. Yet in power dynamics it’s about reclaiming power back. Control is sometimes a way of holding on to someone’s attention. Sometimes, harm is done to make an impact on someone’s life when they don’t know what else to do. I watched Elon Musk’s childhood story about bullies. That resonated with me. I used to be bullied for the clothes I wore. It was an honest attempt at connecting with others. I wore budget friendly clothes and sometimes trendy clothes. What mattered was the intent. People were chasing status, when I just experimented with it. I wasn’t controlled by it. Same with my hair. Some people were mean and some people valued the artistic side. Sometimes in middle school, I would step out of bounds. Following others behavior. Sometimes I would try to reclaim power through very slight physical domination when I didn’t know what else to do. Sometimes I would say absurd jokes to get attention. Sometimes I would get jealous because I couldn’t control a situation. I worked through those issues. I got into a habit of saying “I’m sorry. Am I forgiven?” a lot during junior high. It drove people crazy. It was genuine. In the age of social media, cars are like that. I’m totally content with a car I paid $6k for. It gave me a mission. I really had to grow and mature into that. That’s the simple beauty of what I’m building. Have a good day!
